Masmorra Dungeons Of Arcadia (Core Box)
In Masmorra: Dungeons of Arcadia you take the role of one of five adventurers and delve into the dungeon beneath the great city of Arcadia. Originally intended as a training ground for the heroes of Arcadia, the wizard Malaphyas and his minions have taken over the Masmorra and now the fight is real!
Published by CMON, this game is set in the Arcadia Quest universe. Each player controls a Hero and explores three levels of a dungeon jam-packed with monsters, traps and loot! The dungeon begins as a single tile and the players will roll (and possibly re-roll) a set of six dice to provide the possible actions for their turn – these include feet (for walking/exploring new dungeon tiles), swords (for close-range combat), bows (for long-range combat), shields (to defend against attacks), elixirs (to heal and combat undead monsters), and magic (to change the results of another dice).
The monsters are represented by fantastically printed dice, which you roll upon spawning – the blue minor monsters include Goblins (weak but spiteful!), Cultists (steals elixirs), Skeletons (immune to bows), Orcs (strong), Ghouls (steals feet) and Spiders (catches Heroes in a web). The orange major monsters include Spear Beastmen (strong), Giant Bats (steal bows), Gelatinous Cubes (immune to all damage except magic), Ghosts (immune to bows and steals XP), Dark Watcher (Heroes cannot use abilities when in the same room), Young Dragon (very tough).
When a Hero kills a monster, explores a large room, disarms a trap, defeats a boss or acquires some treasure they gain experience, known as XP. When players pass three, seven, 12, and 17 XP they get to level-up, where they can reveal an ability from one of the cards which are kept below their Hero board. Abilities usually involve docking dice to unlock great effects.
Heroes are unable to attack each other directly but can use treasure cards to spoil each other’s plans! The game comes with a number of modes – the first is a simple competitive race to 16XP. In the Epic Game, players take the fight all the way down to the third level of the dungeon and must defeat Malaphyas himself. The Alliance Game is the same as the Epic Game, but players work together (or solo) against Malaphyas’ deck of Evil cards that unleashes terrible effects each turn.
Additionally, the five detailed plastic miniatures all come with Arcadia Quest character cards so they can join your guild in that game (if you own it, of course!)
